We want your bike to be better protected against theft. For this reason, since April 2018, Düsseldorf Police Headquarters has been offering to provide your bike with an individual license plate in the form of a sticker.
The starting signal for registration was given at the "Cycleworld" bicycle trade fair, which took place in Düsseldorf on the weekend of April 7 and 8, 2018. The campaign was a great success!
The license plate is affixed to the bike frame so that it is clearly visible, deterring potential thieves. If your bike is ever stolen, the license plate makes it easy for us to detect if a thief is on the move with your bike.
The license plate can only be removed by destroying it, similar to the stickers on car license plates. If the sticker is not removed properly, residues of the sticker will remain or scratches may appear on the frame.
Please bring the following with you when registering:
a) the bike to be registered,
b) a valid (identity) card,
c) a proof of purchase or proof of ownership.
Unfortunately, due to the system, only bikes belonging to residents registered in Düsseldorf can be registered! Registration takes place at the district offices. Dates and addresses will be posted online soon (see "Bicycle coding dates" below).
A few more tips
- Always secure your bike to a fixed object, even if you park it in a bicycle cellar in an apartment building!
- Use high-quality locks to secure your bike!
- If possible, do not leave bicycles outside overnight!
