The Düsseldorf House of Juvenile Justice pursues the common goal of focusing on offenders under the age of 21 at an early stage, showing them prospects for a life free of punishment and also developing these prospects together with them. Everyone benefits from this, especially the young people and adolescents themselves.
To this end, the cooperation partners, the city, the public prosecutor's office and the police, carry out their tasks independently in their functional area, but under one roof and hand-in-hand. Working door to door facilitates direct, uncomplicated communication and promotes transparency for everyone involved. Suspects should be made aware of the consequences of their actions as soon as possible after the crime.
Children, young people and adolescents with a criminal record who are predicted to have an incipient or consolidating criminal "career" should be protected from further danger in a coordinated and educationally sensible and effective manner. Various concept modules are available for this purpose at the House of Juvenile Justice. For example, the state initiative "Kurve kriegen".
In so-called case conferences, issues can be considered from all angles at any time and in an organizationally uncomplicated manner in order to find the best possible way out of crime for those at risk.
Jugendhilfe im Strafverfahren, the police and the public prosecutor's office have thus embarked on a good way of identifying and addressing young people who have committed multiple offences at an early stage so that their already entrenched criminal careers end noticeably more quickly. This should not only reduce juvenile crime overall, but also make a significant contribution to improving the feeling of safety and the security situation in Düsseldorf.
